Corporate Server 4 Beta First ISO is available!

Corporate Server 4.0 has been designed to enable customers to abstract low-level administration layers. Corporate Server 4.0 has been developed by Mandriva's Engineering department and also with professional support contribution so that Mandriva's enterprise server will be well adapted to clients' needs.

Corporate Server is:

• The flexible, basic, Open Source building block for Open Source projects in the enterprise
• Comprising additional stacks of components that can be activated on top of the core server
• A companion product for Corporate Desktop

The technical solution is based on a directory on which it will be possible to plug many types of services (mail, file servers, web servers, DNS, DHCP...). This directory enables to centralize all corporate information about users, groups, resources (logins, human resources, hardware, contacts...).

The Mandriva Corporate Server 4.0 provides a centralized directory to:

• use only one user account database (reducing administration costs)
• easily deploy new server-based functionalities
• consistently handle cross-platform desktop stations (Linux, Windows, Mac OS X), simplfying administration with a single access and authentication point for the company resources.

The new Mandriva Corporate Server 4.0 proposes to install different kinds of servers, that would be able to function autonomously, or to connect to an existing directory. This approach offers great flexibility for administrators, no matter what size their park is.

We organized our product in various stacks as shown below in figure :

Installer innovation

In order to facilitate installation of Corporate Server and services, installer has been modified and works now with two steps :

• installation of base system : innovation is in packages choice screen. It's now a very limited choice : ssh server, graphical environment (KDE or Icewm).
• after server reboot : installation of services planned for this server. If you chose installation of graphical environment, this is done thanks to web tool before opening first graphical session. If you did not choose any graphical environment, you will be able to use this web tool with a web remote access in a browser. You will find a brief how-to in all text consoles.

Hardware support

Corporate Server 4.0 is based on updated kernel 2.6.12-19mdk, and has been tested on a wide range of hardware configurations ; certified on the top-10 list of systems for the top-5 vendors (HP, IBM, Dell, Nec, Intel ref. boards).
